Head Coaches - Penn State awarded Joe
Paterno a
four-year contract extension through 2008. Paterno has guided
the Nittany Lions to
a 339-109-3 record in 39 years as head coach... Louisiana College
selected Norman Joseph as head coach to replace
Marty Secord. Joseph formerly has coached at Louisiana-Monroe,
Louisiana Tech,
Northwestern State, Northeast Louisiana, Southern Mississippi,
Belhaven, San Jose State and Midwestern State... Wilmington (Ohio)
chose Phil Dorn as head coach.
Assistants - Steve Spurrier, Jr. was hired as tight ends coach
at Arizona. Spurrier, who replaces John Peterson, has been wide
receivers coach with the NFL’s Washington Redskins for the
past two years... Lafayette chose Antoine Smith as defensive line
coach... Ian Falconer was named as associate head coach and offensive
line coach at Oberlin. Falconer, who has been with the program
on an interim basis since January, formerly coached at Lewis and
Clark... Cornell College added Darnell Wiltz as an assistant football
coach and assistant track and field coach. Wiltz, a 2003 graduate
of the school, has been an intern with the football squad and
in the athletics department at Cornell for the past year... Greg
Jackson was hired as cornerbacks coach at Louisiana-Monroe to
replace Tim Rebowe. Jackson, who formerly played professionally
in the NFL, was secondary coach at Idaho last season.
Manchester added Ron Planz as defensive coordinator... Scott Farison was named as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at
Robert Morris. Farison, who replaces Joe Nemith, has been a graduate
assistant with the program the past two seasons... Mike Patterson
was selected as offensive line coach and Joe Crousen as defensive
coordinator at McMurry. Patterson has been assistant head coach
and offensive coordinator at Abilene (Texas) Cooper High School
for 12 seasons, and Crousen formerly coached at Mississippi State
and Sul Ross State.

High School
Kingman High School (Arizona) named Jay Weakland head coach. Weakland
coached previously as a running backs coach at Buena Vista University
in Storm Lake, Iowa. Kingman High School is a 5A high school in
Kingman, Arizona.
